Seeing the Future: NOSA and the Federal Ministry of Youth Development Collaborate to Advance Youth Eye Health
The National Optometry Students Association (NOSA) National Executive Council collaborated with the Federal Ministry of Youth Development in Abuja for an impactful engagement themed, “Seeing the Future: Advancing Eye Health for Youth Development.” The event brought together youth leaders, optometry professionals, policymakers, and development partners to strengthen partnerships and advance youth-focused eye health initiatives across Nigeria. Speaking during the event, the Minister of Youth Development, Comrade Ayodele Olawande, represented by the Director of Youth Mental Health and Psychosocial Affairs, Emmanuel Essien, emphasized that poor eyesight among young people often leads to frustration, anxiety, social withdrawal, and reduced academic confidence. Dr. Obinna Ebirim, Senior Technical Adviser to the Minister, also disclosed that eye health programmes would be incorporated into the Ministry’s youth development initiatives, marking an important step towards improving access to eye care services for young Nigerians. The programme concluded with a humanitarian outreach at the Durumi Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Camp, further demonstrating the shared commitment to advancing eye health and youth development in Nigeria.
NOSA National Executives Pay Courtesy Visit to Regalo Hope Foundation.
Regalo Hope Foundation is committed to uplifting the less privileged through free educational scholarships for secondary school students, digital skills training, and monthly food distributions to vulnerable families. Led by the National President, Comrade Oke Nicholas, the National Executives of the Nigerian Optometric Students Association (NOSA) paid a courtesy visit to the founder of the foundation, Mrs. Chineye, to discuss potential collaboration for the upcoming NOSA conference, which is currently in the planning stages. The executives also invited Mrs. Chineye to serve on the NOSA Mentorship Committee, where she would share her experience in establishing and managing foundations and NGOs with NOSANs. Through strategic partnerships, NOSA continues to promote leadership, professional excellence, and impactful community service within and beyond the field of optometry.

Demonstrating its commitment to strengthening partnerships within the optometry community, the National Executives of the Nigerian Optometric Students Association (NOSA), led by the National President, Comrade Oke Nicholas, paid a courtesy visit to Visions Opticals to share the association's progress, ongoing initiatives, and vision for the future of optometry in Nigeria. During the visit, the executives highlighted NOSA's achievements and ongoing activities, while also discussing the association's website and its role in improving communication, visibility, and engagement among optometry students nationwide. Discussions were also held on possible collaboration between Visions Opticals and NOSA for the association's upcoming conference. The team was further given a tour of Visions Opticals, providing valuable insight into the practice's operations, services, and commitment to quality eye care. NOSA appreciates the warm reception and hospitality extended by the management and staff of Visions Opticals and looks forward to future collaborations that will contribute to the advancement of the profession.
NOSA National Executives Visit Mrs. Amara at Providus Bank
The National Executives of the Nigerian Optometric Students Association (NOSA), led by the National President, Comrade Oke Nicholas, paid a courtesy visit to Mrs. Amara at Providus Bank to discuss potential areas of collaboration aimed at benefiting optometry students across Nigeria. Key discussions focused on the creation of identification cards for all NOSA members, as well as the issuance of cards that would facilitate both local and international transactions for NOSAns. The meeting also explored the possibility of supporting future NOSA induction ceremonies through awards and recognitions for outstanding graduating students, course representatives, and student leaders. The visit marked an important step towards fostering partnerships that promote student welfare, excellence, and leadership within the optometry profession.
